The Cultivator?s Terracotta When the family would wake in the early mornings before the sunrise to start the day in the vineyards from home, the thought of lunch was still on the back of their minds. Known to be committed to their work, the Portuguese people would prepare the food inside the clay pots and dishes in the morning, start a small fire before they work and let the heated ash?s slowly boil their concoctions. When almo?o (lunch) came, the food would be ready to serve in the same pot. For centuries, this pottery has been passed down trough the generations, known to be used to hold its temperature for long amounts of time, whether cold or hot and is prominent in the Portuguese culture.
